The Best Essential Oils for Sleep

Sleep is the best meditation
-Dalai Lama

From treating infections to managing anxiety and facilitating sleep, essential oils are  a natural cure for many health conditions and ailments of the body and mind. But each person reacts uniquely to an essential oil.  Finding out which oils or which combination of oils work best for you can be a process of trial and error.

Blending different essential oils together can have synergistic effects that not only enhance the therapeutic properties of an essential oil, but also allow the body greater access to such benefits.

Noctis by Volare is a particular blend of essential oils crafted to promote deep and restful sleep. The intention of this blend is not only to help you fall asleep but also to stay asleep.

Wild Orange: What!? Citrus oils are generally known for their uplifting properties. Why on Earth would we include that in a blend to help you calm down and sleep? I'll tell you why. Orange essential oil helps to reduce stress and improve mood. Stress and anxiety often plague the mind with worrisome thoughts that release hormones associated with the flight or flight response of the body. For many people, worries and anxiety are the primary cause of sleeplessness and insomnia. That's why we've included wild orange essential oils in our Noctis blend.

Lavender: The undisputed champion of sleep. For those of you who need it validated by the rigours of the scientific method, lavender has scientifically proven calming and relaxing properties that promote sleep and ease feelings of tension. Its benefits were known long before science confirmed it through its methods. Lavender was used by the ancients. Egyptians and Romans documented their use of lavender. In folklore medicine, accounts were kept that pillows were filled with lavender flowers to promote sleep in restless people.

Chamomile: Like lavender, this essential oil has established itself as a champion sleep promoter. It soothes and promotes feelings of calmness. Among its many other benefits, chamomile has particularly been noted for its abilities to treat anger and frustration. The combination of lavender and chamomile has strong sedative effects on the nervous system. Did you know that chamomile was also by soldiers in Ancient Rome for courage? Sleep and war have at least one thing in common; they require calm nerves.

Ylang Ylang: Ylang Ylang has traditionally been used to balance emotions. Some days you have a million things to do and your energies and emotions are running high. Other days you sat at your desk all day and worked and your energies and emotions for subdued. Ylang ylang gives the body what it needs. It can uplift or settle. It regulates the body to optimal emotional and physical states. Speaking of optimal states, ylang ylang has long been used as an aphrodisiac.

Sandalwood:  Sandalwood has long held a central role in the spiritual and religious practices of many ancient traditions of the East. In Hinduism, the application of sandalwood is thought to bring one closer to the divine. Sleep is also thought to bring one closer to the divine. As the Dalai Lama said "sleep is the best meditation".  How could we not include sandalwood oil in the Noctis sleep blend! Beyond this spiritual connection, sandalwood essential oils have traditionally been used to relax muscles and nerves and also to reduce stress and hypertension.

So there you have it! That is the the thinking that went into the Noctis blend of essential oils. The synergistic combination of these time proven essential oils has the ability to promote deep and restful sleep. But don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself.
